Mary Lee Garretson Engleman

Bolivar - Mary Lee Dunn Garretson Engleman died peacefully December 29, 2021 after suffering a fall. Mary was a long time resident of the Bolivar area, having been born in Blairstown, March, 29, 1921. Mary’s family moved to Cliquot in 1932 where she served as postmistress for 14 years.
Mary married Harold Garretson in 1938. They had four children: Mildred (Millie), Lyel (Buster), Fred (Bug), and Harold James (Jim). After moving to Bolivar, Harold and Mary ran a drain cleaning and trash business for many years. Harold passed away in 1983.
In 1990, Mary met Virgil Engleman at a square dance club. They married and lived on their farm in Dunnegan until Virgil’s death in 1997. This union expanded her family with Wayne and Anita Engleman and Mary and Hal Chapman and their families.
Mary enjoyed making quilts, sewing, reading, puzzles, and most of all, her family and friends. She had a wicked sense of humor right up to the end.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Riley B. Dunn and Louie A. (Coldsmith) Dunn; her husbands; and all four of her children, as well as 6 siblings. She is survived by her three Daughters-In-Law (Sharron Kay Garretson, Sharon Sue Garretson, and Jenna Garretson), 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren, as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Mary’s 100th Birthday was celebrated by a family “drive-by” in March due to the pandemic, but was celebrated by style by the entire family in July.
Mary was a life-long member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Cliquot, MO.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pitts Chapel. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar, MO with burial to follow at Salem Cemetery in Cliquot, MO.
