Hoffer, Dorothy Lucille -
Bolivar - Dorothy Lucille (Sconce) Hoffer, age 90, passed away February 2nd, 2022. She was born October 24, 1931, at the family home near the Jacks Fork River in Eminence, Missouri. Lucille was the youngest of nine children born to William Wesley Sconce and Lula Pearl (Prince) Sconce. At the age of 8, her father passed away and left her mother to raise the family alone. Lucille graduated from Eminence High School and as her siblings left home, she stayed with her mother until her marriage to Wayne Nathaniel Hoffer on April 5, 1953 in Eminence. The couple moved to the Hoffer Family Farm east of Bolivar, Missouri. A son, Nathan Wesley Hoffer came to the family on April 13, 1961. Lucille stayed at home with Nathan until he started school and she took a job as the secretary to the Principal at Bolivar High School, a career she loved for more than 20 years until her retirement in 1992. She and Wayne attended Southern Hills Baptist Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church as long as their health allowed.
Although she loved her job at the high school, the best “jobs” she and Wayne ever had were being grandparents! Bonnie Lucille Hoffer was born in 1989 and Silas Taylor Hoffer was born in 1992.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents William Wesley Sconce (1887-1940) and Lula Pearl (Prince) “Ma” Sconce (1891-1989). Lucille’s beloved husband, Wayne Nathaniel Hoffer (October 1919 to March of 2013, just weeks before their 60th Wedding Anniversary). Passing away earlier were all of Lucille’s siblings: Oral, Jesse, Freddie Otho, Frieda Mae, Raymond, Lelah Mary Lee Honeycutt, Dexter, and Johnny Sconce. Additionally, Wayne’s seven siblings: Gladys Wahlborg, Beatrice Roesch, Nellie Marie Martin, Carrietta Brown, Lester Hoffer, Ralph Hoffer, and Cora Bland.
The family who will cherish her memory is her son, Nathan Wesley Hoffer and wife Rachel; granddaughter, Bonnie Lucille (Hoffer) Shikles and husband Jon B; and grandson, Silas Taylor Hoffer; their mother Laura Ritter. Also, three Sisters-In-Law, Milda Marguarette “Biddy” (Fry) Sconce, Wandalea Fern (Dethrow) Sconce and Daisy Blanche (Hoffer) Murphy. There are also many, many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her dearly.
